An unforgettable trip to Seville

The capital of Andalusia is a city where you will find as many as three UNESCO World Heritage sites. Seville is Spain’s fourth-largest city, which impresses not only with its exceptional monuments, but also with its great weather and unique atmosphere. If you are dreaming of a trip to southern Spain, be sure to visit Seville! In our article you can check out the attractions Seville has to offer and what to see during a trip to Andalusia.

Seville – what attractions does the city have to offer?

Three sites located in Seville have so far been inscribed on the already mentioned UNESCO World Heritage List. The first is the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary – the largest Gothic church in the world. It was built between 1402 and 1506 on the site where a mosque formerly stood – the remnant of which is the Giralda, which once served as a minaret and is now the Cathedral’s bell tower. Next to it is the Royal Alkazar, a palace dating back to the 11th century, which has been extended and rebuilt several times over the centuries. It was here that representatives of the Caliphate of Cordoba resided, and much later Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon received Christopher Columbus returning from America. The third UNESCO-listed building is the Main Archive of the Indies, dating from 1785, which was built to bring together in one place all the documentation on the Spanish colonies.

What else is worth seeing in Seville? Popular attractions in Seville include the Torre del Oro, or Golden Tower, dating back to the 13th century, which was one of 166 towers in the Moorish defence system of the city. It got its name from the fact that gold looted in the colonies was stored there. Also worth a visit is Pilate’s House, a 15th century palace that was built on the model of the house inhabited by the Roman prefect of Judea. Seville is also home to Spain’s oldest bullfighting arena, where you can visit the Corrida Museum. Besides all we mentioned before, be sure to visit the Spanish Square, which is one of the most famous landmarks in the city. It features a canal that allows you to circumnavigate the square. It is interesting to note that it was here that some of the scenes of the film “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones” were filmed.

Review of Free Walkative - Tours Gdansk
Excellent overview of Gdansk history

Oddly enough, the main town was the last in the various walking tours I have done with Walkative over two trips to Gdansk. There is very little overlap and this one really gives you a solid grounding in the history dating back four or five centuries in some cases. The guide (Macin I think - sorry!) did a wonderful job retelling some of the gore and much of the wonder that’s as old Gdansk. These guides do an amazing job!

Review of Free Walkative! - Tours Wroclaw
World War 2 & Jewish Wroclaw Walking Tour

We spent a pleasant two hours walking around Wroclaw, visiting significant historical sites to do with the Jewish community and the Second World War. Our guide Lukasz was very knowledgeable and informative and also very friendly. We learnt a lot in the time we spent with him on the tour and saw parts of the city that we wouldn’t have probably come across wandering on our own. I’d highly recommend this tour and would give Lukasz five stars for his knowledge and delivery of the subject matter! Thanks
