What to see in Wrocław?

Wrocław is one of the largest and most beautiful cities in Poland. It is located in its south-western part. It is also one of the most important points on the tourist map of the country. It is eagerly visited by tourists tempted by beautiful views, interesting history, delicious local cuisine and numerous monuments. You certainly won’t be bored during your trip to Wrocław! Both museum lovers, history buffs and architecture enthusiasts will find something for themselves here. There is no shortage of vast green areas to enjoy or delicious restaurants serving traditional dishes from the region.

So where should you go during your trip to Wrocław? The Old Town is definitely worth a visit – especially the Market Square. In the Middle Ages, there was obviously a market located here, and today it is one of the largest old town squares in Europe. It is a home to two town halls: the late Gothic Old Town Hall with its beautifully ornamented facade and the New Town Hall in historicist style. In addition, the Market Square is surrounded on all sides by colourful façades of townhouses, the oldest of which were built in the 13th century. During a tour of the Wrocław Market Square, it is also worth visiting the nearby St. Mary Magdalene Cathedral. From its distinctive vantage point called the Bridge of Penitents, there is an amazing view of the city. On the opposite side of the market square is also the Gothic Basilica of St. Elisabeth with a tower measuring more than 90 metres, from which you can also enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

Wrocław sightseeing tours – which sights do you have to see?

Other must-see sights on a trip to Wrocław include the Gothic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Ostrów Tumski, the Cathedral of St. Vincent and St. James, the Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross and St. Bartholomew’s Church, as well as St. Adalbert’s Church on Plac Dominikański. Other noteworthy buildings include the main building of Wrocław University with the richly decorated Leopoldina Hall, the main railway station, the 20th century Centennial Hall with its multimedia fountain, the Wrocław Opera House, the Piast Brewery, the water tower on Wiśniowa Avenue and the royal palace of the Spätgen family.

Also worth a visit in Wrocław are the Japanese Garden in Szczytnicki Park and Panorama Racławicka – an art museum where you can admire the painting Battle of Racławice, measuring over 110 metres in length. History enthusiasts should head to Ostrów Tumski, the oldest part of Wrocław. It used to be an island in the Oder River, but is now connected to the rest of the city. In the 10th century, a Piast stronghold was built here. Today, the oldest preserved building here is St. Giles Church from the first half of the 13th century.

Review of Free Walkative - Tours Gdansk
Excellent overview of Gdansk history

Oddly enough, the main town was the last in the various walking tours I have done with Walkative over two trips to Gdansk. There is very little overlap and this one really gives you a solid grounding in the history dating back four or five centuries in some cases. The guide (Macin I think - sorry!) did a wonderful job retelling some of the gore and much of the wonder that’s as old Gdansk. These guides do an amazing job!

Review of Free Walkative! - Tours Wroclaw
World War 2 & Jewish Wroclaw Walking Tour

We spent a pleasant two hours walking around Wroclaw, visiting significant historical sites to do with the Jewish community and the Second World War. Our guide Lukasz was very knowledgeable and informative and also very friendly. We learnt a lot in the time we spent with him on the tour and saw parts of the city that we wouldn’t have probably come across wandering on our own. I’d highly recommend this tour and would give Lukasz five stars for his knowledge and delivery of the subject matter! Thanks
